The Winslow Culottes Elasticated Waistband Hack.
I've just made a pair of Winslow Culottes by Helen's Closet but couldn't wait to try out one of the hacks. I really love the design of the original Winslow Culottes with the invisible zip at the back but thought I'd try the elasticated waist hack - I like the look of it because only the back is elasticated - the front waistband remains flat with box pleats.
You can find the hacks for Helen's Closet pdf patterns on their blog. The instructions and diagrams are as easy to follow as the main pattern instructions. Other Winslow Culottes hacks on the blog include:
fully elasticated waistband
I chose to make a skirt length version of The Winslow Culottes using a drapey crepe fabric purchased from foreverfabrics.co.uk. This fabric is so lightweight that I omitted the pockets. I do miss the pockets though and wouldn't omit them again. After one wear and a wash, this fabric has pulls in it, I wonder if I should of used a finer needle.
The Winslow Culottes are such a quick satisfying make - I did find that the elastic twisted in the waistband though while wearing them. To fix this I used the method recommended when making The Arenite Pants; set your straight stitch to its longest setting and sew around the waistband, stretching the elastic as you sew. I did two rows and this was the perfect fix!
