The Slouchy Cardi, In the Folds

A Review of the FREE Slouchy Cardi Pdf Pattern by In the Folds with Peppermint Magazine.

Peppermint is an Australian lifestyle magazine - they have a number of FREE sewing patterns on their website which are made in collaboration with In The Folds. In the Folds have both pdf and printed patterns that are stylish yet simple with a modern aesthetic.

Slouchy Cardi

The Slouchy Cardi is described as:

... a knee-length slouchy cardigan, with wrap around collar / hem band and sleeve cuffs. It has a relaxed fit, perfect for autumn / winter layering and has in-seam pockets, for a really cosy feel ...

The Slouchy Cardi pattern is definitely suitable for beginners and is a great introduction to sewing with knits. Fabric recommendations are french terry, sweater fleece or jersey with at least 20% stretch. There are ten sizes available ranging from bust 76cm - 131 cm.

Slouchy Cardi

The Slouchy Cardi is drafted for 5'7", B cup. I shortened the paper pattern by 1.5" but didn't worry about a FBA as this is an oversized garment anyway. There are no pattern options but I was very happy with the drafted knee-length, wrap around collar, inseam pockets option.

The PDF went together very well and the instructions are excellent - especially for a FREE pattern. They are very detailed with clear diagrams and contain lots of sewing tips.

Slouchy Cardi

This is a quick sew, especially with a serger. I managed to sew my cuffs up the wrong way the first time meaning they were too tight to get over my hands so I had to cut out a second pair from different fabric. *Mental Note* mark the cuffs properly next time!

The wrap around collar is attached as one long tube which can be a bit unyielding but it all went together nicely without any issues. I decided to top stitch the collar down with a zig zag stitch after serging as I like the finish it gives and it also keeps the seams nice and flat on the inside.

Slouchy Cardi

Whilst it is warming up here in Cyprus I am still wearing my Slouchy Cardi every day - its especially cosy in the mornings when I walk the dog and the pockets are the perfect size for a phone and keys.
