The Selfie Shirt is the ultimate flattering design! Perfectly balanced with high-volume sleeves and full peplum skirt, it features a slim, fitted waistband that includes multiple options for personal comfort and preference. Soft pleats and a blousy fit complete the stunning silhouette!
Full Waistband - with or without faux ties.
Hook/Eye Closure - open bodice, secured at the waistband with hook and eye clasps.
Tie Closure - open bodice tied at the waistband.
I used fabric purchased online from Pound A Metre. It's always a risk buying fabric online and I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with this one. The fabric was described as "Reversible Stretch Jersey". It's not reversible and while it does have stretch I wouldn't describe it as Jersey. Recommended fabric for The Selfie Shirt is scuba with 30% stretch, my fabric isn't scuba (not sure what it is!) but I felt that it had enough structure to create the volume sleeves that are a feature of The Selfie Shirt.
Getting the right fit is fundamental for The Selfie Shirt. It's drafted for a 5'6" adult with a 9-10" side waist and a B/C cup size for Tweens to XL and D/DD cup size for plus sizes. My first Selfie Shirt still fits so I used my existing pattern pieces. I did originally do a fair bit of pattern adjustment to get a good fit but the instructions take you through this step-by-step. I had to grade between bust and waist, shorten the side waist a little and add length to take into account a larger cup size.
The Selfie Shirt comes with a peplum skirt but I wanted a dress! This was a really easy hack - I simply lay the peplum pattern piece on top of my fabric (folded double) and added length all around evenly, keeping the curved shape. The peplum skirt is approximately 8" long and I added an extra 16" to make a knee length circle skirt.
Making The Selfie Shirt Dress Hack is very straightforward and is relatively quick - once you've graded your pattern pieces. The front cross-over bodice is supported by elastic which makes the low cut design feel very secure. The sleeves make this dress feel that bit more special - it's definitely a dressy up dress!
I don't have an event in mind where I will wear this Selfie Shirt Dress Hack - the fabric feels quite synthetic so I think it'll get too warm to wear on a sunny day but an outside evening event would be perfect!
