The Casual Affair, Rad Patterns

A Review of The Casual Affair Pdf Pattern by Rad Patterns.

"The Casual Affair has so many options that can take you from super cosy to ultra sexy!" - Rad Patterns

The Casual Affair from Rad Patterns is new to their lingerie range. It features delicate straps, cups and a gathered skirt. Not only can it made in either knit or woven but it has several cup options and three lengths: babydoll, upper thigh and above the knee.

The Casual Affair is available in sizes XXS - 6X which is a full bust range of 28" - 80" and includes pattern pieces for a Small, Regular or Large Cup. It is drafted for an hourglass body with a height of 5' 7".

The Casual Affair Pdf Pattern is formatted for US Letter, A4, A0 and Projector and has Layers enabled. Light to medium weight fabric with good drape is recommended. Knit fabric needs 50% 4-way stretch. You also need FOE (Fold Over Elastic) for the straps and elastic for the waist.

"The Casual Affair is best suited for an adventurous beginner or above sewing level." - Rad Patterns

I chose to make The Casual Affair in a knit fabric with closed cups, upper thigh length and without the extra straps at the back - I always choose the easiest option when its the first time making something!

I found the instructions and accompanying diagrams clear and easy to follow and had The Casual Affair cut out and made within two hours. Using FOE for the straps is very satisfying as it gives such a lovely neat professional finish. I was disappointed that you are left with a raw finish on the inside where you attach the cups to the skirt though - especially as you are encouraged to use French Seams for the side seams of the skirt. I will definitely work out a way of enclosing the elastic at the waist for a neater finish next time.

I'm happy with my finished Casual Affair - I really like this shape and will be looking at making a more substantial version as a Summer Dress.
