Can I Change the Neckline of the Drama Dress by George & Ginger Patterns?

With the cooler months approaching I thought I would like a warm tunic that I could wear over leggings or jeans. I like the Drama Dress shape but prefer the lower neckline of the Ginger Dress. I wondered how easy it would be to merge the two patterns together.
I'd already bought this fabric from George's Material Shop because I loved the colours. It is a lightweight knit with some stretch.
I traced the neckline of the Ginger Dress onto some baking paper (cheaper than tracing paper) and lined it up to the underarm of the Drama Dress. I simply pinned the pattern pieces together rather than tracing out the whole thing. I made sure to cut the 3/4 sleeves and neckline from the Ginger pattern. I cut the shorter hem line from the Ginger pattern. This is quite short - its definitely only wearable over jeans for me.
This fabric is quite lightweight so I decided to try and add elastic to the shoulder seams for reinforcement. I have tried this before without success - both the sewing machine and serger have grumpily rejected the elastic in the past. This time I used wonder tape to stick a line of elastic to the shoulder seams. This held it in place perfectly and the serger happily stitched across the top.
This went together fairly easily and quickly. I'm happy with it and think I'll get plenty of wear out of it during Autumn and Winter.
Final Thoughts: quick, easy and cosy.
